The History of Candle Making [Infographic]

Nothing provides the simultaneous benefit of atmosphere and style to your home quite like candles. With over 2,000 types of candles and 10,000 different scents to choose from, your home can truly stand out with a well-chosen candle. Although they may seem like a simple home accessory, candles actually have a rich history dating back thousands of years.

With all the changes in popular scents and materials used to create wax from 3,000 B.C. to now, we felt it was essential to cover each era of candle making since the heyday of Ancient Egypt to give you a sense of the transformations the art has undergone over the millennia.

We’ll start with the Ancient World, travel through the Middle Ages and the Colonial Era, and end with the 19th and 20th Centuries, where you’ll recognize the candles we know and love today.
