Active Shooter Events, By The Numbers [Infographic]

"Active shooter" is a term we hear far too often lately, especially living in the United States where mass shootings are happening on the regular. Experts are scrambling to figure out the cause behind these rising numbers, and how to prevent future devastation. There were more than 200 active shooter situations throughout the United States between 2008 and 2017. That averages to almost one shooting every two weeks! Even states with strict gun laws in place are seeing a rise in this form of violence. It doesn’t seem that any corner of our country is immune to it.

California has some of the strictest gun control laws yet they have had the most active shooter situations out of all the states, and Texas has more lenient gun laws yet comes in third for shootings. The only states in the continental U.S. that haven’t had one of these situations occur are Montana, Wyoming, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. What can we, as a country, do to curb this violence in the future?
