The History of The Gig Economy [Infographic]


With Airbnb, Uber and Lyft's milestone economic growth. From temporary positions to freelancers, people have been working in short-term jobs. However, in the past few years, we have begun to hear more and more about the "performance economy." So what is it? Often defined as the service sector involved in temporary work, the gig economy has received nearly 1 million workers in just 10 years. (1) Recent technological advances and a series of benefits, such as additional income, flexible working hours and self-management, may be the reasons for its growth. Let us explore this growth through the largest players in the three economies: Airbnb, Uber and Lyft.
