Most people don't think big birds are middle-aged, but this year Sesame Street is 50 years old. This now iconic puppet has been airing since 1969! If you've seen Sesame Street as one of more than 86 million Americans, you may remember almost all of these classic characters.
Many of them, such as Bert & Ernie, Kermit of the frog and Oscar of Grouch, have participated in the show since the first day. Others, such as Grover, Snuffleupagus and Count von Count, made their debut in the next few years. If you have a child (or grandson) watching the show now, you may see new faces that you didn't have before, such as Baby Bear, Abby, and Mrs. Crustworthy. In any case, all of these puppets have their own place.
As the show moves to the advanced channel HBO, we can be sure that Sesame Street has no plans to stop after 50 years! Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street with the history of 50 classic characters in this infographic on PlaygroundEquipment.com.
